The relationship
Loosing a child can affect your relationship. It is often said that people’s relationship deteriorates after loosing a child. There are both studies that corroborate this and studies that disprove it. At Berin we see that some parents experience that their relationship is negatively impacted, while others experience that they grow closer, while others don’t feel that it impacts their relationship.
In a relationship grief often differs and manifests in different periods. It can mean that you feel alone with the grief, or that it can be difficult to be supportive towards each other. Something that often helps in such circumstances is understanding and communication about how you are feeling or what you need. That can make you more patient towards each other and each other’s grief reactions. It can help the partners support each other in the grief.
